Central College

Saturday morning we faced off against Central College in our first conference dual of 2011. Coming into the match we knew that the Dutch would have improved and we definitely felt the affects of their improvement in this competitive match. The Norse ended up coming out on top with a score of 8-1, losing only one singles match at the #6 spot. Here is how it all went down:
Gendron/Whiteley (LUT) def. Dan Bowser/Seth Harris (CEN) 8-4
Piepkorn/Zinnecker (LUT) def. Bryn Boswell/Jacob Dreyer (CEN) 9-8 (7-0)
Mozena/ Van Heest (LUT) def. Kyle Freischlag/Zane Hendricks (CEN) 8-6

Following two close matches at two and three doubles, we went into doubles confident that we could close out the match and complete one step on our way to a fifth straight conference title. The singles scores ended up playing out like this:
Whiteley (LUT) def. Bowser (CEN) 6-3, 6-4
Mozena (LUT) def. Harris (CEN) 6-2, 6-2
Gendron (LUT) def. Boswell (CEN) 6-3, 6-0
Burman (LUT) def. Freischlag (CEN) 6-4, 6-0
Zinnecker (LUT) def. Dreyer (CEN) 6-3, 6-4
Hendricks (CEN) def. Piepkorn (LUT) 4-6, 6-2, 10-8

This was a great way to start out our conference schedule this year. Central seems to have the ability to finish second or third this year in the conference. Beating a team dominantly like we did does a lot for our confidence early in the season.

Saturday we also had an exhibition match against the U of M Club team. We lost this match 4-5, but the match was not recorded and will not count against our record. Highlights in this match include great wins by Samriddh Burman and Harry Whiteley. Mr. Whiteley won at the #1 spot against an excellent grinder and Sam won at #4 against a former highly ranked player in the USTA Northern Section.

Next weekend we are at home again on the rubber against the Simpson College Storm and the University of Lacrosse Wisconsin Eagles. The Lacrosse rematch will be important to the Norse as they are the first ranked team they will play in the ITA Central Region. The Eagles are currently ranked #16 while the Norse are ranked #10. These matches kick off at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.respectively.

Enjoy the warm weather and Go Norse!!
